Predominately a colourist rather than a tonal painter, Mary Taylor‘s work concerns the environment that surrounds us, especially the land and seascapes of West Penwith, the changing weather and the light and colours of the four seasons. The colours she sees within the landscape she introduces to her paintings in an abstracted way. She will often paint on site or from sketches and photos, bringing memories and references back to her studio on the Lizard Peninsula where she develops the work further. She tries to capture the essence of a place in both paint and print, one enhancing the other, evolving the work an emotional response to the subject.
She exhibits at the Stable Yard Gallery on the Trelowarren Estate and her work can be viewed on her web site.
